A new interim city manager was announced by the Salisbury City Council, following the retirement of David Treme, who had held the post for more than 25 years, according to the Salisbury Post.

Salisbury, North Carolina, welcomes Doug Paris to the post, and the interim city manager has several key tasks to perform once accepting the position, the news source reported.

Paris will have to oversee the decisions concerning the awarding of several key city contracts to developers and construction companies as part of an effort to bolster the area's department of public works, reported the Post.

The first decisions that Paris will make involve the potential continuation of the Summer Youth Employment Program, consideration of a $196,500 contract for a street sweeper and an extension of a grant for new highway improvements, according to the news source.

City Council members will also have to authorize the purchase of a John Deere 410J Backhoe Loader to help with construction around the area, the Post reported.

John Deere construction equipment comes in a variety of new models including the G-Series Excavators and the 850K Crawler, according to the company website.
