The USDA has begun issuing their final mailings of the 2012 Census of Agriculture in an effort to have farmers' and agricultural producers' voices help shape the future of the United States agriculture industry. This is according to a recent press release from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The U.S. Census of Agriculture is conducted once every five years, and provides a report on the current state of agriculture across all states and counties in America. The 2012 Census of Agriculture looks at farm land values, market value of agriculture production, farm practices, expenditures, and other factors that affect the way farmers and ranchers do business, according to the release.

Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, says in the press release, “Before you tackle your decisions for this growing season, make sure you’ve responded to the Census of Agriculture. It’s the easiest choice to make. At a time of uncertainty in our nation, we rely on sound data—statistics that lay the groundwork for our programs and policies. By responding to the Census, you are sowing seeds that will help reap benefits and grow the future of American agriculture.”

As stated in the press release, the results of the Census, which can be sent via mail or secure online website, will provide a vital snapshot of the current state of agriculture and will impact the future of agriculture. Vilsack goes on to say, “I urge those who have not yet responded to seize this opportunity. There is still time to be counted if you respond today.”
