John Deere recently announced expanding the company’s commercial hay equipment line with two new L Series Square Balers, the L330 and the L340, which are designed to maximize productivity, increase efficiency and lower operating costs for commercial hay equipment owners and operators.

The two new balers incorporate an intensive drivetrain, with a 45 stroke-per-minute gear box, in order to move power to other components. The balers are designed with two different width options; 83 inches for the L330 and 90 inches for the L340. The 330 Baler produces a 3x3 ft. square bale and the 340 Baler produces a 3x4 ft. square bale.

Jeremy Unruh, product line manager at John Deere Ottumwa Works, said, "We've been working for years to develop a large square baler that will meet the tough demands of our commercial hay customers. And now we're very pleased to launch the new L Series Square Balers with High-Capacity Rotor to offer more efficiency, capacity, and performance to commercial hay producers in the U.S. and Canada."

When describing the durability of the L Series Square Balers, Unruh explained that the machine uses gear and shaft drive for the main components including the stuffer system and knotter drive system. Also, the high-capacity rotor operates with a cam clutch protected chain.

Other key features include a special heavy-duty single-fork system and on-board hydraulic density control. These components tightly compress crop before transferring the hay into the bale case and allows the in-cab monitor to control hydraulic pressure on the cylinders against the bale case.

The new L Series Square Balers will help operators maximize performance by adding capacity and durability to commercial hay equipment, while lowering costs.
