Registration has now opened for the 2017 Indiana Small Farm Conference, which will be hosted from March 2 through March 4 in Danville, Ind., by the Purdue Extension.

This year, workshops tackling topics ranging from hops production to food safety will be hosted on March 2. Educational programs addressing farm management, marketing, and livestock and vegetable production will be held on March 3 and 4.

“The number of small-scale farming operations is increasing in Indiana and throughout the country,” said James Wolff, Extension educator in Allen County and conference organizer. “About two-thirds of all Indiana farms are 200 acres or less. The Indiana Small Farm Conference brings together the small and medium-scale farming community to share practical knowledge and build relationships.”

Agricultural author Eliot Coleman will be the event's keynote speaker. Other speakers include Blaine Hitzfield, founder of Seven Sons Farms in Roanoke; Simon Huntley, founder and developer at Small Farm Central, a small-farm management services and technology provider; and Collin Thompson, farm manager at the Michigan State University Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center.

Several vendors will also be at the conference, displaying a wide range of agricultural equipment and products for attendees.

Individuals can attend the 2017 Indiana Small Farm Conference for all three days by purchasing a $190.00 ticket. Tickets for one day of the event are $75.00. More information on the event can be found on the Purdue Extension Small Farm Team website.
