Caring for used tractor includes sharpening blades, cleaning grass off machine

Consumers should hose off more than just their grass in dealing with lawn care.

Having a used mower can lead to lawn care for a number of years, but there's still some work that people should do if they want to make sure their machines last.

According to a recent report from the Associated Press, there are a number of things people can do to help improve the health of their used mower. Jesse Elizondo, an operations manager with Home Depot, said owners should make sure that they let their mowers cool after using them.

They should also hose off any grass that's on the machine, as leaving it on a used tractor could lead to oxidization on its parts. Furthermore, Elizondo advised that gas be drained out of a machine if it won't be used for a while.

"Also change the spark plugs once a season and keep the blades sharp to protect the grass and avoid making the motor working harder than necessary," the AP report said.

Not having sharp cutters can lead to grass being torn, rather than cut. That, ultimately, will lead to a less-than-healthy lawn.ADNFCR-2034-ID-19884036-ADNFCR
