According to a recent Rapid City Journal article, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack will speak about the future of rural America on Nov. 5, in Lincoln, Nebraska, as he lays out his vision for an innovative rural economy.

Vilsack will discuss “Rural America: New Markets, New Understanding, Unlimited Opportunity,” as he presents the second lecture of the Heuermann Lectures season at the Grand Ballroom of The Cornhusker in Lincoln. In the lecture, Vilsack plans to lay out his vision for an innovative rural economy that introduces new opportunity and provides even more benefits for the U.S. economy in the long term.

Ronnie Green, University of Nebraska vice president and Harlan vice chancellor in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, says in the article, “We all know rural America plays a tremendous role in our country, providing abundant, affordable food, clean drinking water, outdoor recreation opportunities, renewable energy and much more. But rural America also faces modern challenges to growth and opportunity. We look forward to hearing Secretary Vilsack speak on these issues.”

Vilsack plans to address current USDA and Obama Administration efforts to expand markets for American agriculture domestically and abroad. The presentation will also focus on the necessity for new, innovative partnerships to help rural America achieve great things across all these priority areas.

Attendees of Tom Vilsack’s presentation will likely gain insight into where the USDA sees the future of rural American heading, as well as plans to expand markets on a national and global level.
