John Deere is redefining precision spraying with See & Spray technology transforming how farmers save on input costs, improve weed control, and boost yields. During the 2025 season, the technology was used across more than five million acres – a land area larger than the state of New Jersey.

Proven Performance Across Millions of Acres

Launched in 2021, See & Spray uses boom-mounted cameras and onboard processors to scan over 2,500 square feet per second at up to 15 miles-per-hour, identifying weeds and triggering individual spray nozzles via Deere’s ExactApply™ system. The result? Herbicide is applied only where needed – saving money, reducing waste, protecting crops, and boosting yields.

Across more than five million acres, operators reduced their non-residual herbicide by an average of nearly 50%, saving close to 31 million gallons of herbicide mix through targeted applications. Many have also reported less crop stress when healthy plants are not exposed to broad, full-coverage herbicide during each pass.

Yield improvements are also a key outcome. Trials in Mississippi, Nebraska, Arkansas, Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee demonstrated that soybeans treated with See & Spray technology yielded an average of two additional bushels per acre — with some locations reporting even higher returns, underscoring the value of protecting plant health through targeted application.

See & Spray is available via factory installation or a Precision Upgrade kit for MY18 and newer R-series and 400/600 series, existing sprayers and select new John Deere and Hagie sprayers.

A Smarter Approach for 2025 and Beyond

As the sprayer applies with See & Spray engaged the system generates both As Applied and Weed Pressure maps across the field. These insights can be viewed in the John Deere Operations Center to help operators analyze shifting weed patterns and optimize herbicide strategies for future seasons.

Beginning in 2026, a new annual licensing option will be available for high-use operations. The new license simplifies per-acre planning and allows producers more control over in-season decisions.
