Electric-powered equipment is not a new concept for John Deere. The first John Deere electric riding mower, the Electric 90, dates back to the 1970's, and John Deere has had an electric Gator, the TE 4X2 Electric, in their product lineup since 1999. Now, John Deere wants to take their commitment to offering electric equipment options to a whole new level. By 2026, John Deere aims to offer an electric option in each Turf and Compact Utility Tractor product family, in keeping with the Deere Smart Industrial strategy, which was first announced in 2020.

John Deere’s reputation for being at the forefront of equipment innovation is well-deserved when it comes to the electric options consumers are demanding. With consumer demand for electric cars in the US nearly doubling between 2020 and 2021 to more than 600,000 units, John Deere is at the forefront of emerging machinery trends and is well-placed to lead the industry in terms of both sustainability and customer satisfaction.

As the next step in its electric equipment launch strategy, John Deere is revealing potential machinery options to the world. Through both the Equip Expo and its new electric equipment-focused website, John Deere wants to show what its lithium-ion battery-powered machinery lineup will look like in the near future.

At the Equip Expo, held in Louisville, KY from October 19 – 21, John Deere showcased 4 lithium-ion-powered concept vehicles: a residential zero-turn mower, a commercial stand-on mower, a utility vehicle, and a compact utility tractor. This demonstrates John Deere's commitment to delivering a portfolio of electric-powered vehicles to the North American market by 2026.

All 4 concept vehicles share 3 forward-thinking design principles in common:

  • 0 carbon emissions from the tailpipe
  • Being a smart investment for customers, both in terms of operator experience and impact on the bottom line
  • No compromising on John Deere's proven performance, with a commitment to performing just as well as a gas- or diesel-powered machine

After taking initial consumer feedback into account, John Deere will be choosing one of these four concept vehicles to launch as a new product available to John Deere customers in February 2023. John Deere will be announcing the specific electric vehicle it will be launching on January 12th, 2023. Those who want to stay in the know can sign up for timely email updates about John Deere's newest lithium-ion-powered vehicle before it launches at a dedicated electric equipment-focused website . Until the launch, this new site will have updates, news, and more info about electrification technology.
