To celebrate 50 years of manufacturing backhoe loaders, John Deere is looking back on its legacy of excellence with the JD310 model, which debuted back in 1971. Today, the 310L – the latest generation – continues to be a critical part of Deere’s lineup of backhoes.

“This anniversary celebrates half a century of reliability and providing customer value stemming from the introduction of our backhoe lineup in 1971,” said Brian Hennings, product manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry. “We are proud of the advancements we’ve made to our backhoe loader line in the last 50 years and are committed to providing our customers with continued innovation.”

Deere has continued to improve upon its backhoe lineup since the 50-horsepower JD310 was introduced. The company has expanded its innovations and technologies to develop additional models, including the 310SL and 310L EP. The 310SL allows customers to be up to 16% more productive in trenching situations when compared to previous models. The 310L EP features a redesigned powertrain with a synchromesh manual transmission and a more basic operator station for ease of use.

To commit to the next generation of backhoe loaders, Deere has started joint-testing its first-ever battery electric backhoe loader with National Grid. The Deere E-Power backhoe loader will ideally perform like a 100-horsepower 310L diesel-powered machine, without the tailpipe emissions.
