As others store used tractors, Pasadena program offers tips on water catchment

While many people may be putting away their used tractors for the winter season, those living in more temperate climates can take advantage of the rains afforded by this time of year.

Pasadena Water and Power is offering a workshop to help residents build water catching systems, which can help retain water for later use. Winter presents a rainy time for the Pasadena area, although an irrigation ban limits putting hoses to lawns and gardens to once a week.

"Winter's bounty is the rain that gives sprinklers and water bills a break," PWP said. "You can reap the benefits of winter even more by harvesting roof and pavement runoff with a rainwater catchment system."

The Santa Monica Rainwater Fair is sponsored by PWP in conjunction with the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association. It will be held at the Santa Monica Airport from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 17.

Water restrictions are employed by many municipalities, especially during drier seasons like summer. Not adhering to the regulations could lead to fines.
