It is fitting for the number one golfer from the U.S. to have a chance at winning a tournament hosted by an iconic American brand, a feat that Steve Stricker is attempting to do for the fourth straight time, according to a release from the tournament.

The release noted that the native of Wisconsin, a state full of both golf enthusiasts and people who have used John Deere tractors, will attempt to be only the fifth player in golf history to win the same tournament four consecutive times.

"We are very excited at the prospect of witnessing Steve Stricker make history and join a very elite group of golfers should he win his fourth straight John Deere Classic," said tournament director Clair Peterson. "Steve has been the top-ranked American player in the world for some time now and has been a tremendous supporter of the John Deere Classic. His quest to win four in a row will bring international attention and credibility to our event."

According to the tournament website, John Deere also uses the tournament as an opportunity to generate money for charity, as the 2010 event raised more than $4 million as a part of Birdies for Charity.
